With this style you are limited to those three tones to create a wide variety of effects.
Black ink is adequately stable and willing to last a lifetime, but as you dilute the ink, the grey tones may lack that lifelong longevity that you would hope for. Often these tones can be removed by the body as the tattoo ages. I prioritize black tones in my tattoos because they have the best longevity.
