What is the price for a work of art?
It is a good question. To come to an answer, we need a few things first.
Firstly, what are you looking to create?
Your subject matter is important because it can determine how long the artwork will take to create. This determines its value in some sense.
Second, how much will it cost?
My hourly rate is currently $28.54. This hourly rate is tied to the experience factor. This is based on the skill set that I’ve acquired through the years. This gives us a tangible number to represent my skill level that effectively compensates me for my time and gradually increases each year alongside my experience.
Next, just add the cost of supplies.
After the cost of supplies are added, that number is multiplied by my experience factor to get the final cost of your artwork.
So for example, this is my pricing equation.
(Hours Worked x Hourly Rate $28.54) + the cost of materials = the wholesale cost
The Wholesale Cost x Experience Factor 1.91 = the price to commission a painting
